Conductive Education is a holistic educational system, which assists people with damage to the central nervous system to learn to overcome their challenges.
Dr Andras Peto, a Hungarian physician and the founder of Conductive Education created his method in the late 1940s’. He viewed people with neurological conditions as a whole; focusing not only on the body but also the personality.
Conductive Education treats people with disabilities as facing a challenge of learning rather than needing treatment for a medical condition.
Dr. Peto believed in neuroplasticity; the lifelong ability of the brain to reorganize neural pathways based on new experiences. He believed that no matter how severe the impairment, people can learn and improve when they are motivated.
Neurological conditions create a wide range of developmental challenges and effects the whole personality. It could cause delays in gross and fine movement, perception, cognition, social skills, emotional development, speech, language and communication.
The system has been specifically developed for children and adults who have motor disorders of neurological origin.
